Gilbert and Sullivan meet George Lucas: A Grievous “Modern Major General”

A friend wrote about enjoying a production of “Pirates of Penzance” at Oregon State.  I looked for YouTube versions . . .

Oh, my!

(Better:  Rent one of the movies, either of D’Oyly Carte, or the Linda Ronstadt/Rex Smith/Kevin Kline version.)

I don’t know if I want to watch the YouTube version or not, but the Central Park production of Pirates with Ronstadt/Smith/Kline and Pat Routledge as Ruth, is now available on DVD. Sound and video are not always terrific because it was recorded on the DVD directly from the original tape way back when, but the flavor of the piece and Kline’s mugging to the audience are priceless.
