Sleeping Dog at the Palace at Knossos, Crete (Greece) - photo copyright 2010 Kenny Darrell (free use with attribution)
You recognize the three maidens, of course, the Ladies in Blue fresco. Dogs wander all over Crete, Kenny discovered. Strays? Neighborhood dogs just not bound by a fence?
Maybe this mutt is just a lover of history, or archaeology. Dreaming of the Knossos that was? Who will tell the dog the fresco is a reproduction? Do they duplicate the dog at the display in the Heraklion Museum?
Kenny got inspiration from roaming the ruins of the palace. Some of his colleagues, he reported, were less interested, because they were ruins. They had hoped for more of a palace to tour. Walking through a cradle of civilization, but craving the comforts of guides and air conditioning . . .
From Kenny’s stay in Crete early in the summer.

Kenny spent most of two months in Chania, and he recommends we retire there. It looks great. I’d never heard of Samaria Gorge — the deepest in Europe? Really?
One of his colleagues got a very striking shot of octopi hung out to dry (?) before going on the menu at a local pub . . .
Beautiful place with a lot to see and a lot to explore. I just can’t help thinking the dog has a lot of the right idea, sleeping in the historic ruins and soaking it in.

Loved Crete. Hope he got a chance to tour around a bit, soak up local scenery, sights, food and drink…
One day I’ll go back… Knossos was restored (imperfectly) but the unrestored town (Malia? Gournia?) I saw was breathtaking (and I was alone for most of two hours, me, ruins, sun, imagination). Samaria Gorge. Town of Chania. Countryside. Iraklion, where I woke to the sound of, I believe, fisherman softening octopus (a repetitive thud).
Thanks for the photo reminder!
