Rush Limbaugh and Fort Worth, Texas

To complain about the horrific defense of the child maiming, rape-sowing, war-crimes committing “Lord’s Resistance Army” made by Rush Limbaugh the other day, I sought out the Dallas-Fort Worth station that carries the program.  Limbaugh’s show is carried on WBAP-AM in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  So I dropped an e-mail to the station to ask if they support Rush’s views, and asking how they will try to rein in the rogue talker.

No answer, yet, of course.

But on the way I ran into something that made me laugh, even if you don’t find it funny.

I went to Limbaugh’s site to check for transcripts, and to find which station in this area carries his program (no, I am not a regular listener by any stretch.

WBAP-AM 1320 was one of the early “clear channel” stations in the U.S., a 50,000-watt powerhouse whose signal could cover from San Francisco to just west of the Appalachians on a night with the appropriate weather.  25 years ago truckers used it as a beacon (and may still for all I know — I’ve not ridden with the long-haul truckers since I got to Texas).  It’s a famous station, and Rush Limbaugh should be flattered that they would carry his excrement  program.

So I found “Texas,” and I found WBAP listed in Fort Worth (no one else in Dallas).  Here’s the line the listing was on, copied from Limbaugh’s site; click on “WBAP” and see where you go:

Fort Worth WBAP-AM 820 M-F 11a-2p

It says “WBAP-AM” in Fort Worth, Texas; but it takes you to WBAB, 102.3 FM on Long Island, New York.  WBAB 102.3 is a rock ‘n roll station.  It ain’t WBAP-AM 1320 in Fort Worth, not by a longhorn steer’s horn spread.

I wonder how long the Limbaugh show has had the wrong URL for the station in Fort Worth, and I wonder if it has made any difference in listeners getting through or advertisers.  I wonder how long it will remain with the wrong URL, and whether anyone cares at WBAP, WBAB, or the Limbaugh show.

Maybe I should just write directly to the “license renewal file” at the FCC.

Hi there, Scrooge! Thanks for the link. It was interesting.

In one sense, I would be greatly relieved if we could clinically determine that Mr. Limbaugh actually was a psychopath (or is sociopath more apropos?)

I would, of course, be sad for him and for his loved ones. To be so afflicted is a kind of hell I just cannot feature. And I would sincerely hope Rush would find his way to a place of help, health and wholeness.

What concerns me more is that he may believe what he says, or he may not. Or, he may not care one way or the other. What would alarm me (for his sake and for the sake of his acolytes and followers) is the prospect that it’s ultimately all about money. At times, Limbaugh has claimed to be a journalist. At times, he has shrugged off that label and claimed to be an entertainer or a comedian. Which is it?

And if you are making yourself rich — not via honest, hard work or even astute investment — but by engaging in hateful paradigms and abjectly immoral rhetoric…then you really are human slime.

So. I am still waiting for the many Rush Limbaugh fans who have played their little games of hit & run to post here in this thread. The silence still screams. Do you support the dope addict in his ringing endorsement of the Lord’s Resistance Army? Or, being the people of integrity you claim to be, have you called your local radio station and asked them to remove this hateful gasbag from the airwaves once and for all?

    Any takers?

“So a few days ago Black and the other lunatic righties here were posting post after post.”

Black has probably given up trying to be banned, he likes to boast about how many “liberal” sites have banned him because they can not handle the “truth”, on his own blog.

It was interesting watching him become more aggressive, and vulgar, as desperation set in trying to get this place to ban him too.

  6. So a few days ago Black and the other lunatic righties here were posting post after post.

And then Rush Limbaugh spouts off again and now the righties here are as silent as church mice.

What? Finally scared of being painted with Rush Limbaugh’s bullsh–?

The fact that Rush retained his employment after the oxycontin-addiction revelation proved that the conservative right has no actual standards. A favorite Rush meme was the black homeless man who, if given so much as a dollar in cash, would somehow turn it into enough herion to addict every sixth grader at the local elementary school.

Addicts were evil monsters that must be eliminated; blowhard self excepting of course.

There is absolutely no defense of the Lord’s Resistance Army. To call them the african Khmer Rouge insults Pol Pot by the comparison. Rush defended them? On air? Where it could be recorded?

I swear a third of this nation is absolutely bonkers. The third that listens to this tripe and fellow travelers.

    Hey Bob,

You’re not helping your oxycontin-addicted pal by posting that. His OWN web site makes it clear — right up until the last tortured paragraph — that Limbaugh SUPPORTS the LRA. Why? Because they kill Muslims. They kill homosexuals, too. But at least Captain Dittobrain didn’t mention gays this time. Of course, the LRA has murdered many Christians, too.

In the very last paragraph of that transcript, Limbaugh tries to backpeddle. “We’ll check it out.” I suppose some Congressman or Congressional aide with too much time on his hands gave Snerdley a call on a private line and warned them that this was going to blow up in the face of the Republican Party’s minor deity.

    And it has.

If this were a Biden misstep, and Lord knows — there have been some, conservatives would being calling for impeachment. If this were Rachel Maddow, there would be protests outside NBC and threats of violence.

But your Lord and Savior thinks the LRA is just dandy. Not because he knows the first thing about them. Being informed and erudite is hardly something Rush would ever be proud of. That’s for eggheaded, liberal academics at Harvard. He thinks the LRA is just dandy because Obama is agin’ ’em. As Churchill said, “If Hitler invaded Hell, I would at least make a favorable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons”. Except in this scenario, Obama is Hitler and the Devil is the LRA. Beautifully done, Rush.

I will say this for you, Bob. You have a pair. I mean, you at least made a feeble attempt to defend your master. We’ve not heard from the rest of choir, however.

Except for loony Jim Inhofe. Who actualy “gets it” for once. Good on him. You know…stopped clocks.

Yeah, Bob, we know Limbaugh’s a jerk. That was the point.

You’re repeating the error. Do you side with the terrorists, too?

Even Sen. James Inhofe, arguably the biggest troll in the Senate, supports Obama’s position on this issue.

Child murdering and mass rape goes beyond the pale for Inhofe. What in the world is wrong with Rush Limbaugh?

  11. Here, let me buy you a clue of the “Christians” that Rush is defending:

The group is based on a number of different beliefs including local religious rituals, mysticism, traditional religion, Acholi nationalism and Christianity and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments and local Acholi tradition. The LRA is accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children and forcing children to participate in hostilities.

In January, 1997 the LRA attacked Lamwo, in northern Uganda. More than 400 people were killed, and approximately 100,000 people were displaced.[21]

In May, 2002 the LRA attacked Eastern Equatoria in Sudan. An estimated 450 people were killed, and witnesses state some villagers were forced to walk off a cliff.[21]

On December 25, 2008, the LRA massacred 189 people and abducted 120 children during a concert celebration sponsored by the Catholic church in Faradje, Democratic Republic of the Congo, continuing the attack on December 26. Shortly afterwards, the LRA struck three additional communities: 75 people killed in a church north of Dungu, and the church burned; 48 people killed in Bangadi, and 213 people in Gurba.[22] The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimated the death toll as 189 in Faradje, Doruma and Gurba.[22] However, Caritas International estimated the number of victims to be about 500.

On December 28, 2008, the Ugandan army published details of the Doruma attack, accusing LRA rebels of hacking to death 45 people in a church there.[23] An aid official speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity confirmed the December 26 massacre, saying the killings took place in a Catholic church in the Doruma area, around 40 kilometres (25 mi) from the Sudanese border. “There are body parts everywhere. Inside the church, the entrance and in the church compound,” the aid official said. “We got information the rebels cut 45 people into pieces,” added army spokesman Captain Chris Magezi.[23]

Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon stated that he “condemns in the strongest possible terms the appalling atrocities reportedly committed by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in recent days”.[24] Caritas International said that it was “shocked by its staff reports” of the massacres.[25]

Congo’s army, along with armed forces from Uganda]] and Sudan, launched raids against LRA rebels in December 2008 intended to disarm the LRA and end its rebellion. The raids were unsuccessful.

Efforts by the Ugandan army in early 2009 (‘Operation Lightning Thunder’) to inflict a final military defeat on the LRA were not fully successful. Rather, the US-supported operation resulted in brutal revenge attacks by the LRA, with over 1,000 people killed in Congo and Sudan. The military action in the DRC did not result in the capture or killing of Kony, who remained elusive.[26]

In August the Lord’s Resistance army attacked the Our Lady Queen of Peace church in Ezo on the Feast of the Assumption while worshippers were at prayer. They proceeded to desecrate first the Eucharist then the altar itself, after which they abducted seventeen people of ages ranging from teens to twenties. One was tied to a tree and murdered soon after the initial attack.[27] This event caused Sudanese[27] Archbishop John Baptist Odama to call on the international community for help in finding a peaceful solution to the crisis.[28]

In December, 2009, the LRA massacred “at least” 321 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a BBC investigation published in March, 2010 (see Makombo massacre).[21]The deaths were verified by the Red Cross and Human Rights Watch. Victims were hacked or battered to death, and survivors were made to carry loads for their attackers. At least eighty children of both sexes were captured, the boys as fighters, the girls to be sex slaves for the LRA members.[21] The sixty-mile (95 km) round-trip series of attacks began December 13, 2009, in Mabanga Ya Talo, and continued until December 18, traveling southeast down to the village of Tapili and back northwest again to the point of origin — a crossing over to the LRA camps on the north side of the Uele River near Mavanzonguda.

The LRA is Christian in the same sense that Hitler was Christian. And yet Rush sits and defends them.
