FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Rev. D. James Kennedy, a pioneering megachurch pastor who became one of the nation’s most prominent Christian broadcasters and a key figure in the rise of the religious right, died Wednesday, a church spokesman said. He was 76.

We wish his family comfort and well.

Kennedy announced his retirement about a month ago. Coral Ridge Ministries, the church he founded in Florida, will continue. One might hope that, with regard to notorious programs he promoted with voodoo history on the founding of the U.S. and voodoo science against biology, some of the his projects will be allowed to expire with him.

It’s pretty sad, Louie, when the peddlers of the truth must stand out as atheists. When the “Devil’s advocate” as you put it — not Greg Laden’s term, I’m sure — has the facts, and D. James Kennedy lacks the truth, things are in a sorry state.

As Shakespeare had Marc Antony say, the evil that men do often lives after them, while the good is “oft interred with their bones.” My hope is that Dr. Kennedy’s foolish and false claims about science and evolution and history will die with him, instead of living on.

There may be thin hope of the truth winning out, but Paul urges us to be hopeful.

Look at the ridicule this website and this man does towards Rev Kennedy. If he is not an atheist, I will eat my words. But my strong intuition tells me that this is a real Devil`s advocate for sure.

Reverend Kennedy deserve the respect and admiration form the world, not just from America. His cause was noble cause. He did what Jesus did when walking earth 2000 years ago. He gave the instructions that God wanted him to give. He also chose to help the inferior and in need.

God bless the Reverend Kennedy’s passing and may his spirit continue to evolve for the greatness that God expects from all who become flesh.

To all who think that death and tragedies are an act of vengeance from God; It is my interpretation, from my Christian wisdom, experience, and guidance from my Spiritual Guides that God is a God of Mercy.

God is not evil to will the death or tragedy of anyone. God did give conditions of will, which are set and met accordingly. His Greatness is such that he allowed us humans a will to choose between one thing and another. From there, the consequences await us. Be it for the good or for the worse.

Kennedy marks the second death of a major figure in the religious right this year (after the May death of Jerry Falwell)–I wonder if this is making his followers and other fundamentalist Christians take a long hard look at the state of their faith, seeing as they generally consider earthly tragedies and misfortunes to be punishments from God (recall Robertson’s remarks on Ariel Sharon’s stroke, and the countless comments made by others with regard to Katrina).
