Leonid meteor shower 2010: Moon, Jupiter, and Leonids


Some stellar fireworks will be visible in your skies tonight, November 17, 2010.

The Moon is in conjunction with Jupiter.  The Leonid Meteor Shower will peak soon after the Moon and Jupiter set.

Oh, to be in the desert tonight, far away from the lights of the city!

Even in a city, the Moon and Jupiter should be clear, and near spectacular.

Things are great, if you’re looking up.

    Moonset? Where are you? Moonset differs by location. Here in Dallas, it’s inconsequential for meteors, this year.

    Here’s a link to a moonrise/moonset calculator. You can find moonset for your location.

    Since I write about the place of big sky and the time of no light pollution, this post made me realize that even the stars must have looked different then.

    But what time will the moon set?
