Do you have to know geology to get the title of that blog?
Four Stone Hearth 64 is hosted by Quiche Moraine. Lots of good stuff. F’rinstance:
- How do we know what we know department: Kris Hirst explains how we know shamanistic behavior in ancient art. This is an area much too neglected in public school curricula. When students understand how we know something, they are less likely to be suckered in by hoaxes or bad research claims.
- Same category: How did Donald Johanson know Lucy wasn’t a Luke? Pelvis sexing, for fun and knowledge (if you know how to make a profit on this stuff, you’re well ahead of the game).
- When archaeology by elementary school kids is, technically, a crime. Will that make the activity more inviting to high school kids?
With a few hours, an ambitious teacher could get 20 or 30 good bell-ringers out of FSH. Bell ringers based on real research — what a concept.
One of the reasons that we chose the name “Quiche Moraine” is that we have a friend now in Antarctica, and thought it appropriate. Plus, it’s kind of a cute pun. Thanks for the link, Ed.
